Supa Sumo Party Game

Two contenders step into the ring. Both are wearing enormous padded sumo suits. Balance has suddenly become much more difficult, spectators are already laughing, and only one question remains: who will still be standing at the end?

Supa Sumo turns a simple one-against-one challenge into a brilliant spectator game for parties, corporate fun days and group events. Guests do not have to participate to enjoy it; watching friends, relatives or colleagues wobble around the ring can be every bit as entertaining as pulling on a suit yourself.

Inside the Supa Sumo Set

Your booking includes everything needed to create the contest area:

  • One 15ft circular padded sumo ring
  • Two heavy-duty padded sumo suits
  • Two protective helmets

No electric blower is required because these are substantial padded suits rather than inflatable costumes. This gives the equipment a heavier, more authentic feel and allows it to withstand the pushing and tumbling expected during normal supervised play.

Padded Suits, Not Inflatable Costumes

Some sumo games use lightweight air-filled outfits. Ours takes a different approach. Each participant wears a robust, heavily padded suit specifically made for contact games.

The padding changes how competitors move. Ordinary steps become awkward, turning takes more effort and recovering your balance can be surprisingly challenging. That exaggerated movement is what makes each contest so funny for the people inside the suits and everyone watching around the ring.

The aim is simple: use controlled movement to make your opponent lose balance or leave the ring. Reckless impacts, running charges and behaviour outside the supplied instructions are not part of the game.

Create Your Own Sumo Tournament

For a larger group, turn individual contests into a simple knockout competition.

  1. Write each willing participant’s name on a draw sheet.
  2. Select two competitors for the opening contest.
  3. Make sure both suits and helmets are fitted correctly.
  4. Let the contest take place under responsible supervision.
  5. Record the winner and move them into the next round.
  6. Continue until two finalists remain.
  7. Crown the final winner as the event’s Supa Sumo champion.

Keeping individual rounds brief gives more guests an opportunity to participate. It also prevents people from becoming overtired inside the padded suits.

Corporate Fun Without a Formal Team-Building Exercise

Supa Sumo works particularly well at company events because it creates instant interaction without requiring a complicated activity programme. Colleagues can compete, support their teammates and enjoy seeing managers or work friends in a deliberately absurd situation.

A departmental tournament can add friendly rivalry to a summer social or staff family day. The game can also sit alongside food, music and other entertainment, allowing guests to join a contest when they feel ready rather than following a rigid schedule.

A Birthday Game With Its Own Audience

At a birthday party, the Supa Sumo ring provides something different from continuous bouncing. Competitors enter in pairs while friends gather around the outside to watch and cheer.

It can be particularly effective at milestone birthdays, family celebrations and mixed-activity events where guests appreciate short challenges. Pair it with suitable equipment from Fun Games / Extras to create several separate entertainment stations.

For a larger outdoor celebration, organisers might also add an attraction from Inflatable Assault Courses or an appropriately rated option from Adult Bouncy Castles. Each activity must have its own clear area and responsible supervisor.

The 15ft Ring Is Part of the Game

The padded circular ring must always be used. Competitors should never wear the suits and wrestle directly on grass, tarmac, concrete or another uncovered surface.

Allow clear space beyond the ring itself so spectators do not crowd the edge and participants can enter and leave safely. Tables, chairs, drinks and unrelated equipment should be positioned well away from the contest area.

Before booking, make sure the venue has:

  • Space for the complete 15ft ring
  • Additional clearance around its perimeter
  • A reasonably level setup surface
  • Safe access for the equipment
  • A suitable place for waiting competitors
  • Enough room for spectators without obstructing play

How to Run Each Contest Responsibly

A responsible adult must oversee every round. Both competitors must wear their helmets and use the suits correctly before the contest begins. The supervisor should stop play if either participant becomes uncomfortable, behaves recklessly or ignores the instructions.

Participants should be suitably matched rather than pairing people with a substantial difference in size, strength or ability. Nobody should be pressured into taking part, and anyone with a condition that could make physical contact unsuitable should sit out.

Misuse can result in injury, so the equipment must be treated as a supervised contact game rather than an opportunity for uncontrolled fighting. Follow all instructions provided with the hire.

Indoor Supa Sumo Events

Supa Sumo may work inside a sufficiently large hall because it does not have the height requirements of a tall inflatable castle. Floor space is the more important consideration: the room must accommodate the 15ft ring, clearance around it and unobstructed access.

Check for low lights or other fittings if the venue has an unusually restricted ceiling, and remove nearby furniture before setup. If the equipment cannot be used because the venue dimensions or access were not checked, the hire charge may remain payable. Our Local Venues page can help when considering possible halls.
